To give the kids a chance to be kids. The hard work of volunteers and charities world wide has improved the living conditions and health of thousands of the world’s poorest people. I can’t build a house and my administration skills aren’t fantastic, but through my years as a children’s performer I’ve never met a child I couldn’t make smile. That personal attention that many of us were lucky enough to grow up with and which we frequently took for granted, is too often missing in the lives of others. A simple ‘well done’ for drawing a picture or someone just to play and laugh with can make a big impact. We can’t visit everywhere and we can’t stay forever, but by giving each child we meet our full attention for the time we are there, we hope to show that someone cares. The freedom to be creative and to explore is an amazing feeling. You don’t need a formal education or qualifications, you can just be yourself. By offering this to the children we are sure it will help build their self esteem and increase their confidence. These have often become depleted through difficult experiences and responsibilities beyond their years. There is a saying that you may not be able to change the world, but you can change a world. We are going to try, in the time we have, to do just that. |
